Human Trafficking Center

Partnerships

The HTC believes partnerships are critical to combating human trafficking.

The HTC has partnered with the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking (LCHT) and Prax(us) to study policy and legislative initiatives and make recommendation to local and state-wide stakeholders, including law enforcement, prosecutors, legislators and service providers.

The Social Wellness Advocacy Network (SWAN) focuses on harm reduction and life coaching for individuals victimized by sex trafficking. As a 501(3), SWAN’s priority is to ensure that the needs of victims of sex trafficking and those identified as sex workers can be met. They work from a non-oppressive framework that acknowledges sex workers as autonomous individuals that hold multiple perspectives on issues regarding sex work.

The mission of the Denver Anti-Trafficking Alliance (DATA) is to create a victim-centered, multidisciplinary response to human trafficking in Denver through trauma-informed victim services, collaborative investigation and prosecution, education and awareness, and public policy advocacy. Over 40 agencies participate in DATA’s work. DATA was founded in December 2012.

In accordance with HB14-1273, the Colorado Human Trafficking Council consists of 28 members including law enforcement, legislators and NGOs appointed by the Governor or by Executive Directors of various state agencies. The Council’s mandate includes the following priorities:

  1. Reporting
  2. Funding
  3. The development of recommendations regarding protection and prosecution
  4. Public awareness
  5. The creation of training standards and curriculum for service providers
  6. Gathering of best practices for the prevention of trafficking, specifically child sex trafficking
  7. Data collection related to the prevalence of trafficking.
